General information, including facts & figures
The history of FRAM dates back over 70 years when the original chemists, Frederick Franklin and T. Edward Aldam, invented an easily-replaceable oil filtering element at their laboratory in Providence, RI. Automotive oil filters of various types had been on the market for nearly ten years, yet were difficult to install, change and clean. Franklin and Aldam, whose last name combination gave rise to the company name, set out to solve these problems with their revolutionary filters.
 
In 1984, SOGEFI Filter Division signed an agreement with AlliedSignal USA for the manufacturing and distribution of filters under the brand name Fram. SOGEFI then went on to acquire FRAM Brazil in 1991 and FRAM Argentina in 1994.
The FRAM brand is synonymous with Original Performance, and is one of the most famous brands of the SOGEFI Filter Division portfolio. FRAM filters are manufactured according to Original Equipment quality and meet all quality regulation standards and certificates (see Quality).
Sogefi are also committed to the development and coverage of the expanding car parc with more than 4,000 part numbers in the Fram filter range aiming to fulfill the filtration needs of the automotive industry. |
Heavy Duty
The Sogefi Filter Division is an OE supplier to numerous European Heavy Duty manufacturers and caters for a wide range of applications including trucks, buses and, agricultural, construction and industrial equipment.
FRAM has been present in the Heavy Duty market for many years, however, in 2007 the company decided to renew its focus on the Heavy Duty Aftermarket by establishing a new department focused on the range development for the European Heavy Duty market.
